I remember being in college in the late ‘90s and thinking that, as a music student, I could be one of the next Justin Bieber. This was before Justin Bieber’s very public announcement that he was gay. I didn’t know if I could handle the attention however. In those days, being an artist was a very specific thing that had to be done. In the same way, being an artist now is not a very specific thing.
With artists, it’s not enough to have an idea; you need to be able to execute it. I am not saying that artists need to be perfect. They can still be good, but they don’t need to be this year’s Justin Beiber. When I was in high school, my favorite acts were my two guitar heroes, my two drum heroes, and my two bass heroes. None of them were famous, but they were all pretty great.
The two artists that I really loved playing on my guitar were, for me, David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix. David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” is one of the best songs ever written for guitar, and Jimi Hendrix’s “All Along the Watchtower” is one of the first guitar solos ever written. But like the rest of my guitar heroes, I could also make great songs by just being a nice person to people.
In my mind, Jimi Hendrix and David Bowie’s music is the epitome of a great musician. They were both great performers, both fantastic musicians, and great people. They were the kind of people that are so cool that they can get you to do ridiculous things like drive your car off a cliff. It’s like when you play the guitar and play your guitar at the same time. It’s like you’re on autopilot.
And that brings us to the next musical hero, Michael Jackson. A number of years ago I wrote a song called “The Greatest”, which really captures a moment in Michael Jackson’s life. It was a song on his “Off the Wall” album where he comes off the stage and just goes crazy. It was a song about the things that he did to the people that he hated, and that’s the best part of it.
Some of the best moments in music are when we go from being in the moment to being out of it, and this is a great example of that. As a songwriter, I often find that I have to write in the moment. I’ll write a song and it will just come out, and I will have to write it again, and again, and again. That doesn’t happen all the time. To me, that’s what music is about.
Music is a great vehicle for this. I use it to express how I feel, to share ideas, to get people to listen, and to get them to do things for me. I do a lot of writing and recording, and I find that writing is more about the process of creating than the writing itself. When I write, I usually just sit and just let my mind go, and then I just go out and put the words together.
I write every day, and every day, I just let my mind go and put the words together. I think that in order to do that, I have to be more creative than what I was making before, and I always find that to be a good thing. I think you can find that kind of creativity in a lot of people.
I find that people who write more often tend to have a unique style and voice that is more personal. I think that’s partly because of the process of writing, which is all about the process of creating. I think that’s the case with most things, which is that each and every person has a unique voice, and that voice gives them something to say.
